Administration Costs Per Student

Click on chart to open a larger version.
In Wayland, we expect to pay a little more for most everything, Wayland Admin Cost per Student due to the semi-rural nature of the town and the reputation for having great schools. Most people don't mind paying our teachers above average salaries in the hopes of attracting and retaining the best.

However, the amount we pay for administration is considerably higher than nearly all of our peer towns.

It's an important distinction to make that we are referring to our peer towns - the select group of 15 towns that our School Committee has identified as towns that are similar to Wayland. The only town that spends more on admin per student than Wayland is Brookline, which with its $90,000,000 budget is in many ways not exactly "peer".

Surely, there is some benefit to our students with this arrangement, but at what cost? Are we sacrificing teachers for administrators? Considering that last year e layed off 7 teachers at an average salary of ±$70,000, while keeping our Central Office staff intact except for a $22,000 cut, it is reasonable to question this approach.
