Student/Administrator Ratio

For good reason, much has been written about Student / Teacher ratios. Teachers play an integral role in how our children grow to see the world and what they learn about it. Adminisrators have a critically important role as well, as they create, implement and oversee the curriculum that the teachers use to educate our young learners. Administrators are the glue that holds the educational system together, and as such are an essential ingredient to our children's success.

However, because there is no evidence that suggests that the number of district-wide administrators help our children's education in any way, assuming there are a sufficient number to effectively & efficiently run the schools, then it is logical to expect that it would be prudent to maintain a school system with as few people in this capacity as possible. To be clear, by Administration, we mean town-wide, Central Office Personnel and are not referring to school administrators, such as building principals, secretaries, etc., which are sometimes also referred to as "administration".

However, as indicated in the chart below, Wayland has more (district-wide) administrators than any of our peer towns. One has to wonder why.
