He has also participated in the University Study in China program sponsored by Duke University and has also served as principal of Belmont High School and assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and community education for Acton-Boxborough.
Paul Stein, deputy superintendent in Newton
Dr. Stein earned his doctorate in education from BU, a master's in special ed from Lesley University and a bachelor's in math and science from Cornell. He has previously served as assistant superintendent, principal and director of an alternative high school as well as a school counselor and teacher of math and science.
Anne Wilson, assistant superintendent in Brookline.
Dr. Wilson earned a doctorate from BC, a master's in education with a specialization in curriculum from Cal State - East Bay, Hayward and a bachelor's in secondary education/mathematics from Bloomberg University.
She was also the founding principal and assistant principal of middle schools in California, having previously taught math and served as chairman of a math department.
It seems that each of these accomplished individuals is well suited to manage the Wayland Public Schools and that we would be lucky to have any one of them at the helm. It will be difficult for the School Committee to narrow down to the best choice from this group of worthy candidates, however It is reassuring to know that each of the them appears to bring a lot to the table in terms of academic accomplishment, worldly experience, and the promise of injecting new, exciting ideas and perspectives into Wayland's schools.
The Survey Results Are In.....
"We have had a vacuum of strategic leadership. We need a vision from pre-K through high school."
"The system is lacking a vision. We need to be able to identify where we are going and how we intend to get there. We need visionary leadership that we haven't had recently."
"Three people discussed issues about matters being "swept under the rug."

Left-to-right, they are:
• Community Leaders Interview Report
Nine "community leaders" were selected by the SC for their input. This is the report of their recommendations
• Summary of Focus Groups and Online Survey
If you participated in a focus group or filled out the survey, these are the results from those efforts.
• Leadership Profile
This seems to be what FMS has concluded we want, based on their compilation of the above.
Next steps:
The Superintendent Search Committee is currently going through resumes from about 35 applicants. They will narrow the field down to a few names that they will pass on to the School Committee as their recommendations.
